“Some people would think that because I've been in concrete construction most of my life, I would be burnt out on concrete. Absolutely not! Concrete countertops start the creative juices flowing. Every project is unique and challenging. After making my first countertop in 1999, I was hooked. I still know where my first countertop is and went to revisit it recently. Although it was absolutely abused and never maintained, I'm amazed how it's held up over the years. No cracks, no chips, or stains that I can't fix. It just felt good. I've experimented with a lot of different techniques on the same type of projects enabling me to refine and achieve predictable results with a critical eye on the fine details. Buddy Rhodes has inspired my work. His press technique has allowed me to get a reaction from my clients that I have never received before. The GFRC class I went to earlier this year (2009) opened up a whole new realm of possibilities, truly inspiring! I'm always excited to start a new project.”
