Three Day Artisan Pro Class: Mold-Making

One Day BRCP Basics Workshop
This class provides an overview and beginning hands-on experience with the materials and methods involved with creating a simple concrete countertop, either pre-cast or cast-in-place. You will acquire an understanding of the steps involved in planning and creating a countertop slab, using the full array of methods used by commercial fabricators, including templating, mold-making, mixing and coloring, upside down and right side up forming techniques, reinforcement options, and glass fibers. Do your own de-molding, polishing, and sealing. Get gloves-on experience with mix consistency, color ratios, placing reinforcement, pressing technique, grinding, sealing and waxing. Review pour and vibrate methods and GFRC techniques, and go over trouble shooting, discussing many tips of the trade. This workshop is appropriate for do-it-yourselfers and anyone new to the craft of decorative concrete forming. You will leave the class with a basic overview of concrete countertop creation and the information and introductory experience necessary to start practicing in the home shop.

Three Day BRCP Comprehensive Workshop
This class is designed to give each student a gloves-on experience that now includes an extra day to cover templating and installation in detail, offering students an opportunity to create an actual countertop to be installed in place on Day 3. You will design, template, build a mold, measure, mix and color concrete to fill the mold, de-mold, grind and polish the countertop, and install it in place at Buddy Rhodes' new San Francisco headquarters: a work in progress. Each step can be adapted to the participant's own project back home. This workshop is appropriate for all levels of experience, as classes are kept small and individualized according to student needs. You will leave class with three full days of hands-on experience with a minimum of one experienced instructor per every four students. All of the possible methods currently employed by commercial concrete fabricators will be explored: pressed, trowelled, ground, pour-and-vibrate, and introductory GFRC - upside down and right side up, pre-cast and cast-in-place.

Student Comments:

"A very informative workshop in a friendly warm environment; it's nice to feel a part of the Buddy Rhodes family. "
Student from Florida

"Friendly, hands-on, practical information; I enjoyed the class from the learning perspective, but most of all enjoyed meeting all of you personally. You made my time here a pleasure - thanks."
Jim

"I liked everything about the workshop. You guys are all really comfortable to be around, and everyone was willing to share information. I only took the advanced class and was familiar with a lot - tried other bagged mixes and my own mix and nothing is as good as yours - but I still came away with much more than I went in with. Thank you thank you."
Candace from California

"I liked the hands on and the down to earth teaching of the staff. Thank you Buddy and staff; you made a dream come true for a hungry student!"
Dan
