What is the repair protocol for ICT and PS1 sealers?
There is scratch on my countertop, and it was sealed with ICT Reactive Sealing System (PS1, PS1-LS or CH Prep + FS Seals). How do I repair it?
Scratches: Most of the time scratches are an aesthetics issue due to over-application of sealer. Buffing takes the scratches away 9 times out of 10. If sealer was over-applied, sand and remove excess sealer, and go back to second application of priming, applying final applications thinner. If a scratch/gouge is in the concrete, then repair would be needed. Lightly sand to remove the gouge then begin with a reapplication to the area, per instructions, and feather the sealer.
I sealed my countertop with ICT Reactive Sealing System (PS1, PS1-LS or CH Prep + FS Seals) and now there are some bare spots showing. Why is this occurring and how can I fix it?
Etching: ICT sealers should not etch, (i.e., sealer is removed leaving a bare rough spot). They are acid resistant. Most often with ICT what is referred to as an etching is a bleach mark where an acid was left on the surface of an uncured sealer. With normal cleaning of the countertop this will fade with time as the sealer chemically reacts and heals itself. What appears to be an opaque white spot is a PH reaction with concrete being basic and the acid being acid. This crystalline reaction will become transparent with time.
What is the best way to remove mustard or other stains on my counter?
Stain removal: Most stains are completely superficial. Dyes from mustard, hot sauces, etc., are easily cleaned with Clorox Kitchen Cleaner.
Oil stains are an indication of improper priming during the ICT application stages. Or sealer was applied to very young, not properly cured concrete and the concrete moved and cured post sealer application. Oil should NEVER be an issue with ICT sealers. If they are, use a poultice to remove the affected spot then start again with an extended priming to soak the surfaces with sealer.
I recently sealed my countertop with ICT reactive sealing system (PS1, PS1-LS or CH Prep + FS Seals) and now I seeing small white marks, what it is this and how can I repair this issue?
This is referred to as Blooming. Blooming is a direct indication of moisture in the concrete, meaning it was improperly cured. As moisture vapor is trying to leave the system a faint haze can happen on the reactive surface. Time is the best solution for this, and an education in proper curing.
